Executive Summary
A National Academies' comprehensive consensus study in 2018 detailed the pervasive, devastating impact of sexual harassment in universities. Students who experience sexual harassment quit school, change majors, suffer academically, and withdraw. Universities haven't made meaningful changes to address problems because the behaviors that harm women students remain largely invisible. Revolutionary Transparency will upend that status quo. We will create an independent dataset of equality metrics at universities; compute a single, transparent "equity score" that can be used to rank each university's gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity; release an open-source toolbox for metric creation for transparency and use beyond universities; and promote adoption of these metrics to inform decisions about university applications and fundraising. Rankings are an evidence-based method that can incentivize universities to prioritize student civil rights. The result will increase women's power and influence downstream by graduating more women in male-dominated sectors.
