Executive Summary
RUN/51 is a nonpartisan, sure-fire strategy to transform every state legislature in the country to 51% women's representation. Comprehensive, solutions-oriented, and scalable for 50 states, RUN/51 focuses on state legislatures because they are:
- Where the Fight Is – from voter access to economic equality, state legislators fight top issues right now;
- Democratic Laboratories – frequent, accessible campaigns allow for strategy-testing and quick evaluation;
- Busting Electability Myths – powerful roles like Majority Leaders, Speakers and Chairs prove women's electability, viability, and influence;
- Generating Innovative Governance – women's consensus-building, productive style solves for hyper-partisanship and legislative gridlock;
- Stepping Stones – 30%+ of the women in Congress (FY 2021) were state legislators.
Piloting in eight states – New York, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio, Maine, Colorado, Washington and Rhode Island – RUN/51 leverages a 40-point data analysis of each state's unique environment to recruit, activate, train, and build an effective, inclusive democracy, led by a diverse group of women, benefitting all.
