Executive Summary
Literacy tests and poll taxes are no more, but voters are being silenced just the same. Today, state and local officials quietly make decisions that determine who gets to vote and who does not. Simple bureaucratic decisions made in off-cycle years, like how states keep registration lists current and where counties close polling places, deny the fundamental right to vote, causing real harm to real people.
Time and again, the people shut out of our democracy are those who have long been disenfranchised: communities of color, young people, low-income Americans, and voters with disabilities.
With staff on-the-ground year-round in eight states and a national team, All Voting is Local combines local know-how with national capacity to address entrenched problems with innovative tactics. This campaign deploys grassroots power-building, data analysis, and strategic communications to remove discriminatory barriers to voting by tackling problems before they silence voters on Election Day while ensuring that, the outcome of the election is respected and upheld and that our election officials are given the space to do their jobs without partisan interference.
